Disability
If illness or injury keeps you from working, disability coverage replaces part of your income — and Dexter pays for both plans.
Short-term disability covers you first; long-term disability takes over if you are unable to work for an extended period. Both are provided at no cost to you, and what you receive depends on your employment classification and years of service.
Short-term disability (STD)
STD benefits may be offset by benefits you receive from state-mandated disability plans in California, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
| Classification | Under 5 years of service | 5 or more years of service |
|---|---|---|
| Non-union hourly | 60% | 100% for the first 4 weeks, then 60% |
| Salaried | 66.67% | 100% for the first 8 weeks, then 66.67% |
Long-term disability (LTD)
You continue to receive benefits as long as you meet the definition of disability, or until you reach Social Security Normal Retirement Age. Benefits are reduced by other sources of disability income you may qualify for, such as Social Security and Workers’ Compensation.
| Classification | Percentage of base pay |
|---|---|
| Non-union hourly | 60%, up to $5,000 per month |
| Salaried | 66.67%, up to $20,000 per month |
